Original Mercury 7 Astronauts Collection: The Space Shop
The "Mercury Seven" was the group of seven astronauts selected on April 9, 1959: (Alan Shepard, John Glenn, Gordon Cooper, Scott Carpenter, Deke Slayton, Wally Schirra and Gus Grissom). They are also referred to as the Original Seven and Astronaut Group 1. This was the only astronaut group with members that flew on all NASA manned spacecraft of the 20th Century. The story of the Mercury Seven was recounted in the book and film The Right Stuff. Featured in this Original Mercury 7 collection is a vintage classic 16 X 20 photograph of all seven heroic Mercury astronauts posing in front of a U.S. Air Force F-106B jet aircraft. This Historic photograph is accompanied by an official Mercury Program embroidered patch, NASA Vector 'meatball' embroidered patch and engraved nameplate detailing these pioneer space heroes.
