Own a piece of the Apollo 11 Spacecraft that landed on the Moon!
Featured is a small but actual piece of the command module Columbia spacecraft that carried Astronauts Armstrong, Aldrin & Collins to the moon and back. To facilitate a safe return, the Apollo Command Module was covered with a very thin layer of pressure-sensitive Kapton polyimide tape--referred to as "Kapton Foil." This tape was coated with aluminum and oxidized silicon monoxide to protect the spacecraft from the extreme temperatures of outer space. Most of this Kapton tape burned away during reentry, but what survived was often peeled off and kept by members of NASA's recovery crews as a souvenir of the historic Apollo mission they helped rescue. This rare Kapton Foil is featured here affixed to an Apollo 11 First Day Cover accompanied by two 8x10 photographs. Two Apollo 11 patches and engraved information nameplate. The source of this Kapton foil which can be seen in numerous photographs on the outside of the command module is Dick Williamson and Terry Slezak, both NASA engineers who were allowed to keep foil and later resold it. Own a piece of American History that traveled to the moon and back! Surrounded by black suede and gold mat and classic gold frame. Total size 16 X 30.
